I think they entered the cathedral through the front doors back then, so it might be that.
 
This is the official installation of the statue of Eugenio Montero Rios in 1916. It's in the Plaza Mazarelos now. What's left of it. More interesting is the balconies across the facade of the parador are gone here. There are earlier photos from the 19th c. showing them, but not here.
