You don't need to take a ferry right? Why not just walk around?

You would be adding quite a bit of distance if you walked around. Probably 150 k as an estimate

Pasajes de San Juan, Santoña and Santander... those ferry crossings add character to Camino del Norte too!

What a contrast to the beautiful morning when we crossed last September. Mind you, we got the rain, thunder and lightning from Comillas to Unquera.

I remember taking the first boat on a very rainy morning. Sure beats the route around the water.
