I love Viana and plenty of friends that live there. Great little village,,,,,

My friends love them, I don't. You just have tor try them before you go and see which is best for you.

That's a personal decision. I don't/didn't use walking sticks.

I strongly recommend the sticks... ..did a lot of difference in my two caminos..especially, as you say going up steep hills they help a lot.

Even more important for going down hill, when you reallly test your knees. (plant pole ahead of your foot and lean into to it).
