Irishrock - Maximum respect to you if you walked from Astorga to El Acebo in one day. You must be a heck of a lot younger than me. I am toast by the time I get to Rabanal.

VERY motivated to hit Cruz de Ferro that day and didn’t want to spend night in Manjarin so didn’t have a choice.

I was 47 when I did it butblegs were feeling good...it was the feet that kept me from going further

I have walked down the hill five times. Once in the snow, twice in the rain, once with nice weather and once on a very hot day. I started staying in El Acebo after the first time. The walk down the hill is one of the most difficult for me. My legs are a lot older than yours.

You should try it the other way. Walking back from Santiago to France that climb from Molinesca to El Acebo is a killer! That and the climb up to Alto de Perdon are the worst stretches in reverse by far. Crossing the Pyrenees and the section to O' Cebrero are a doddle by comparison!

OMG-Just walking towards the sun all day would be a killer enough for me. I can only shudder when I think of the reverse walk. What an experience that must be! Maximum respect to you Davey Boyd.

The day we arrived there it was very hot and it was blissful sitting in a shady area drinking a long, cold drink. One of the most beautiful places to go through - and there were many. Thank you for bringing back such lovely memories.

My pleasure - After the stop in Acebo, the rest of the walk down the hill literally kicked my butt. I barely made it into Molinaseca. Big lesson learned: stay hydrated!
