my last day of walking the Camino with Richard from Minnesota, USA and Susan, Wicklow Ireland. Met pilgrims from 21 countries that helped create so many great memories and friendships
Those species of grapes were brought to that region by French pilgrims. Great picture. I regretted not taking more picture of my Camino friends.

@Olivares interesting information and thank you so much. I can't wait to return in 2017 to see this area again and begin the last stretch to the finish. The past two years on the Camino Frances have brought new friends into my life that I'm so thankful for and hope to always nourish our friendships.

@Jacobus it is indeed. Regrettably, I didn't get a good picture of the whitewashed house between the two pines as shown in the Brierly guide

A very special memory for me. I have a 8x10 photo of that house and surroundings on the wall in my den.
Further on the mencia grapes in Bierzo. They were indeed brought to Spain from France. According to Casa de Burbia the grapes were originally Cabernet Franc but over several hundred years they have morphed into the mencia grape. (Due local terroir)
Cacabelos and Villafranca contain many vineyards and wineries. Bierzo is one of my favourite regions in the world. A very distinct grape making a very distinct wine.

Good morning
The grapes there are descendant from Cabernet Franc brought by French settlers during the religious conflicts in France in the 1500’s. (According to sources I have read) They are now called Mencia grapes and are native to the Bierzo and northwest Leon regions.
