Signpost at Lepoeder. Easier variant to Roncesvalles, by Ibañeta chapel

When you arrive at Lepoeder you can go straigth through the forest (scenic, but very steep), or turn right by the easier paved road to Ibañeta chapel, and then a final short path by the forest to Roncesvalles. This is indicated at Lepoeder in the signpost as "Alternativa suave" (meaning "soft").
I realize this is an old post, but I think it is worth reviving.
At this crossroads in 2023 I had a very difficult time with the route. I probably spent 30 minutes trying to figure it out.

I arrived above the signposts, on the road. My first question to myself was - Is this the place where LEFT is DEATH and RIGHT is LIFE? Then I wondered, if so, left meant continuing on the road which at this point veers left (death), and right (life) meant going down the dirt path (off the road to my right). I walked a bit down the road but it didn't feel correct, so I turned back. When I returned to my starting point I guessed this was the place to make the life/death decision, although I wasnt quite certain. I proceeded down the path to the right.

Shortly I arrived at another fork. Now I was really confused because there seemed to be 3 choices - left was the road, straight ahead was a path, and right was a dirt track. The signage was not helpful.

Even though most pilgrims were going straight onto the path, my instincts drew me to the dirt track on the right, which soon became a road. I saw one or two pilgrims ahead of me and followed them down the road. Turns out I was on the right/life route but a lot of folks took the death trail.

This area definitely needs better signage, yes?
