I hiked it on July 4th, 2017...hot day. Trudged into Estella and was pretty exhausted, but had a good rest and then hiked 40km the next day to Viana...even hotter day.

A 40km walk in July is remarkable for two reasons. The temperature and the distance. You must be a much younger person than me. I believe that 28km was the longest I ever walked in one day. Maximum respect to you.

Buen Camino

I'm no hero...I was three weeks away from 48 in 2017. I hiked from SJPP to Pamplona the year before and then literally thought of the Camino every single day for the next year. I won a big deal that I really should not have and thought it was sort of a sign. I just didn't have the time so I was doing a lot of 2 stages in 1 day kind of situations. (next day was Viana to Najera...fried me...so hiked Najera to Granon for an easier day and it was helpful)

I hiked the second time:
Pamplona to Obanos (I started out of Pamplona at 3:15pm after landing in Madrid and training it to Pamplona earlier that day)
Obanos to Estella
Estella to Viana
Viana to Najera
Najera to Granon
Granon to San Juan
San Juan to Burgos (I then took the train to Astorga)
Astorga to el Acebo (my favorite day)
took a cab from el Acebo to Vega de la Valcarce and then hiked from there to O Cebreiro...then biked O'Cebreiro to Tricastela...then hiked to Samos
Samos to Mercadoiro
Mercadoiro to Palas del Rei
Palas del Rei to Salceda
Salceda to Santiago

How I wish I could take 30 days...just with work, I couldn't do it. Someday I'll head over and do the Frances (May), Portuguese (June), and Norte (July). Heat got to me a lot so having an ocean to jump into a few times per day would be nice

I still love this image. It is so evocative of so many great days on the Camino. Even now, five years after this image, and almost 6 years since my last Camino, the memories flood back to me.
Hard to decide which is stronger: the sharp taste of the cold beer, the warming sun, or the ache in my thighs. 😁
Dennis, I hope the years have been good to you, and to all my fellow peregrinos. The journey continues. Buen Camino.

Hey Capt,

Six years? Sounds like it is time for you to get back there and do it again.

Just watched Ivar's latest video. Looks like Spain is finally starting to open up. It is my intent to return next April.

I miss the hot chocolate, fresh orange juice and fried eggs in the morning, the cold beer in the early afternoon and the vino tinto with dinner.

It seems that I have made many good friends on the Camino. Staying in touch with them during the lockdown has really helped me stay sane.

So far these old legs are holding up.

Buen Camino

I am impressed - Astorga to El Acebo ? That would be a long day for me. I didn't walk my first Camino until I was 71.
Try to go back when you have more days and see some of the places you missed. You have many years ahead of you to do that.

Buen Camino
