Which bike for cycling the Plata?

Hi. This is my first post here so hello 👋 to you all 🙂.

Me and a friend are cycling the Plata from Seville in September. We’re renting bikes and we’re just wondering about which style of bike would be best.

It’s either standard MTB style or a gravel bike (not going fore bikes this time) both listed on cycling the Camino website.

The gravel bike looks best for more road riding but just concerned about sore neck / shoulders due to lower handle bar position.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Dan 😎

Hola and welcome to the forum

Electric ;)

Joke a side - I have no experience with biking the Camino or VDLP so wait for someone with experience to reply to your question.
Most i'v seen on frances seemed to be MTB, but I might be wrong.

Buen Camino

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I've always used an MTB. I like the wider tyres for sandy tracks. Probably if you rent from Seville that;s what you'll get anyway. I rented twice from Triana Backpackers, and would recommend. And I agree with you a more sit-up position is definitely preferable.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah MTB style is better for sure ideally I’ll find a tourer type bike I can rent so I can sit up more and enjoy the scenery rather than head down in racing position

The best bike is the one you already own, it fits you, has all the necessary extras and you've just had it serviced. Box it up and put it on the flight to Sevilla. Gravel bike / trail bike / hard-tail are kinda similar and suitable. Hard-tails are my preferred option for trail riding, a full-sus is nice for comfort, gravel bike for speed. If bar height concerns you have it adjusted to suit. None of the caminos are technical so ride the bike best for you. Above all enjoy the ride.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-

Thanks for your reply. My bike isn’t the best option for a long distance trip but I hear what your saying.
