second week in may to start from St jean de pieds Santiago
Hi all I walked the Camino Frances in January This year it was a great experience, i was prepared but not enough, there should have more long distance and training ,the first day was the hardest and some of the earlier stretches were very difficult due to the weather and the roughness of the paths, also never wear cotton next to the skin when wearing a warm ski coat i stayed in hostals and some Albergues and most rural towns on a Sunday were closed restaurants and bars and shops etc so be prepared to have a tin of tuna and cake for dinner, everywhere i went the people were great i never met anybody who did not wish me well, one things i was not prepared for was the cold especially in the Montes de oca and all around Burgos, i wyou will not regret it alked on my own from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago De Compestela would do it again at the drop of a hat but probably in march or october, what a great experience you will meet many very interesting people as i did and enjoy Spain in an entirely different way Buen Camino Peter Obrien

Sounds like quite an experience I'd love to do a winter camino I've done bits in Spring summer and Autumn but am just a bit apprehensive about how quiet it might be...

It was very quite but by booking ahead the day before i was able to find accommodation, like the hotel in Astorga which was brilliant for 30 euros ? i stayed in Albergues on 4 occasions not my thing but needs must? but the cities were a very nice change Burgos was my favourite, probably the sighting of the Bear tracks was another big thing there were a lot of younger people walking but i was the slowest and was overtaken every day at some time but it is not a race and i finished without any blisters or sores despite walking in wet boots many times over several days.Peter Obrien

Hi peter,

I am planning this walk in January 2019.
I would be very interested in hearing more about walking at this time. It will be my second camino and this time I plan to walk alone.
Thanks
Adrienneanne
