Walking from Vezelay in April 2006

Hi
My wife Kate, and me are set with our kit, to walk the summer of 2006 through France from Vezelay along the GR13 to Le Puy and then join the GR65.
We will carrying a tent as the sound of the mad dash for a bed doesnt sound to inviting.

Any hints on the GR13 appreciated

Hi and welcome to the forum John and Kate,

You might have found this yourself, but I thought I would post the link to the "Overview: The Vézelay Route"-page on http://www.csj.org.uk

You may also have seen our earlier post related to tents, here:

... you sound like you have though this through, but thought I would post it in case you have not considered some of the points mentioned there.

Anyone with more info for John and Kate on the GR13?

Buen Camino!

the E3 route presumably, as the GR13 doesn't go anywhere near Le Puy. I walked the GR13 from Auxerre and on through the Morvan when I passed through Vezelay, but dropped down to Autun and on to Cluny. It was cold and snowy (April - I was in Vezelay for Palm Sunday), and I rather regretted having gone through the Morvan - a lot of up and down. Marking wasn't very good, though that was a long time ago and things will have changed several times since then.

I later also used the E3/GR3 on the final stretch into Le Puy from Retournac (I was coming from St Etienne).

Why are you going that way rather than one of the Vezelay routes? It doesn't really go anywhere very interesting, and I don't think it's much used. There's no topoguide for much of it.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.
