Switching to Asics?

Have been wearing my trail shoes to work last few weeks to get used to wearing them again!
Switching to my asics running shoes while a work!
The asics are so comfortable to wear, I am considering switching from the trail shoes to the acics for the Primitivo!
I know they won’t be waterproof, and some stages of the primitivo are a bit rough, but I think they’ll be nicer to wear.
They should dry out quicker than my trail shoes also!

I have worn Asics on two Caminos and been quite happy with their performance. I have appreciated their mid range price, yet they still served me well for over 500+ miles with no blisters and they still looked great. That said, they do have a few models and I chose one that was more robust.

I wore a pair of Asics gel runners on my first Camino (Portuguese) in 2017.
They were great, especially during the stages with lots of road walking!
My only concern is the lightweight fabric may not hold up to constant rain/mud!
I agree the trail running versions would probably be more suitable!

I have walked the Primitivo in May and rain and mud were very minimal; the fabric mesh uppers never wore any holes in them, but don't know why any bad weather should make a difference with that.

Were you using the Asics Trail shoes (if so which model) or their running shoes (like Nimbus/Kayano).
I typically wear Asics running shoes for walks/runs since they have a Extra Wide (4E) option.... however never walked more than 10km at a time with them.
Their trail shoes (and most trail shoes of other brands) dont have an extra wide option.

So was hoping if Asics Running shoes can handle the Camino walk then it woudl be a no-brainer choice for me.

I haven't purchased a pair for a few years and always wore the Venture models. I just looked on-line and see they have added many upgraded more robust models like the Nimbus to their line. I do not have wide feet so can not help you with that. It seems feasible to go with one of their newer models if you already do well in their running shoes. Good luck.

I wore a pair of Asics Gel runners for walking the Primitivo in September!

My overall experience was positive!
I loved walking in them, super comfortable and the breathable fabric prevented your feet from sweating!
I never had any problems with blisters or discomfort, that includes walking a 45km stage in heavy rain!

They will get wet, yes, but they will dry out extremely fast, a lot faster than most Gor-tex lined higher spec trail shoes!
I can’t recall them, ever not being completely dry for the next day! I had 4 straight days of rain after leaving Oviedo!
I would stuff them each night with newspaper, that and the lightweight fabric really helps drys them out!

I purchased thicker gel insoles, which made them even more comfortable to wear! I saw a quite a few other people wearing similar running/gym style trainers!

I would definitely recommend doing a bit of practice, walking a longer distance wearing your runners/pack and see how you feel!
