Santiago de Compostela airport to Ponferrada - seeking advice

Hi,

I’m trying to find transport from Santiago de Compostela airport to Ponferrada this Friday (18th august) after 5pm. I’m finding it difficult!
I can get a bus from the airport to Lugo with Monbus (arriving 6:30pm) but can’t find a bus from lugo to Ponferrada. I’m keen to go to ponferrada Friday night as otherwise I’ll miss a day’s walking.

I considered carpooling (with BlaBla) but think it’s a risk to personal safety.

I even considered hiring a car (!) but that would be very expensive.

Advice welcome!!

Thanks in advance,
Sinéad

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
5:45pm bus Santiago to Lugo; 9:45pm bus Santiago to Algeciras (via Ponferrada) arrives 11:15pm

You might do better to overnight in Lugo and catch an early bus to Ponferrada the next morning. Otherwise you’ll need to sort accommodation that can handle a late chec-in

Was going to reply the same.
Then next day maybe a short walk from Ponferrrada to Cacabelos?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Thanks so much for the replies!
I've a question for Tincatinker - what company is the 9:45pm Lugo/Ponferrada bus with? I couldn't find it anywhere.
Both - my preference - if the buses work for me - is to arrive in Ponferrada late Friday night instead of getting a bus there the next morning and then walk.
Thanks again - so kind to give your advice on this.

I think BlaBlaCar is safe, and it’s cheap. My daughter has just got one from Bilbao to Pamplona. The driver had 3 passengers. Drivers build up their reliability rating.
