Rota Vincenta
Hi.
I am looking at doing the Rota Vicentina ( Fisherman's trail) this December.
I want to take my boy with me. He is 10 and pretty used to strenuous weekend hikes but has never done a Thru-hike.
I know December will be low season and the weather might not be great, but it is the only time we have 12 days to do it.

Any other reason that it would not be a good idea?

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

As you may already know, thereā€™s quite a loft of sand-dune walking on the RV. Personally I didnā€™t mind this but some people find it difficult because youā€™re often lifting your feet out of deep sand, have lots of sand in your shoes etc. Iā€™d think your son might enjoy it but you never know. Itā€™s a pretty remote walk most of the time so there wonā€™t be many things to entertain him (ie frequent stops for drinks etc) besides the nature.

But itā€™s a beautiful walk and with any luck youā€™ll get some nice weather days and will have a great experience with your son.

Iā€™m in Sagres now, having walked from Milfontes. Iā€™d be concerned about the fall hazards. Portions of the trail are mere 18 inches from the edge. If your comfortable he can handle that and the sand, then perhapsā€¦

I took my boys on hikes. With the youngest I kept a line on him and he did fine. Better to be safe. Kids are resilient and will adapt to you for the most part. Sound like he has se experience already
