yes...
I’ve just seen a breaking news report for a public health warning from Spain. I thought it would be useful to warn pilgrims walking now in Spain... not wishing to cause any alarm but perhaps it’s useful to know so that everyone can exercise caution and take extra care with hygiene?

*** Spain has issued an international alert after the number affected by the country's biggest ever listeria outbreak rose to 150. A 90-year-old woman has been killed by the infection as the health ministry said it was checking another 523 suspected cases of listeriosis. ***

Yes , just saw the TVE news.

Here are some more links.

The cases center in Andalusia and Catalonia (small number), so the main focus of concern are for those who may be traveling in these regions. It seems related to contamination of a limited number of manufactured food products.

Apparently pre-prepared sandwiches are a primary source.

Fresh fruits and vegetables and unpasteurized, fresh cheese are at the highest level of risk. If sandwiches contain fresh veggies, cold cuts or sausages which have not been properly cured, those are common Listeria infected food sources.

South Africa had its worst Listeria outbreak about 18 months ago. The contamination was eventually traced to a polony factory.

Just avoid "carne mechada" in any menu, this particular type of cured stuffed ham is the only source and you should be safe, the focus is in Andalusia, particularly Seville/Cadiz, and everybody is alert by now so you would not receive contaminated meat normally, no panic!

Thank you for the followup. It is likely the stuffing ingredients are the issue in this product, and not the ham itself. As you stated, it is likely that the production source has been identified, recalls (if needed) issued, and remedial action started.

Hello, I would love some counsel from anyone regarding some really bad plantar fasciitis that I’ve been starting to experience during training in my right foot. I’m planning to do the Camino...
