Bilbao accommodation?

I will arrive by plane unfortunately at the start of the long weekend in mid-October, so was happy I set up accommodation through booking.com. Just got a message from the hostel that 'something' happened and they will be closed--for all I know they had actual trouble or got a lucrative offer from someone who wanted to book the whole place for the national holiday. Whatever the reason, I need to book somewhere else. I have never been to Bilbao, do not know where anything is, will arrive just before dark.
The pilgrim albergue closes 30 September, I believe, so I will be 2 weeks late for that. Anyone else know any other place that does not cost a fortune? Thanks.

I stayed at Latroupe La Granja last October. It is not on the Camino path, but easily gotten to. Very nice rooms and baths. Has a sitting area, bar, and serves breakfast, for a fee. Interesting story behind its location.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
I stayed a couple of nights, same season, 2015 I think, YMCA Hostel, across canal from Guggenheim ( worth the visit ), no served meals but kitchen ( at the time ), lockers, good facility not large. Unsure if they take reservations. Unsure if they are still there. First time I had seen 3 tier bunk beds...take the bottom.

In 2018 I stayed at the Quartier Bilbao Hostel. The bed was comfortable, it was quiet and super clean and breakfast was included. Location was good also.

Bilbao is a tourist magnet which means there are many lodging places at a variety of price points, and lots of them are listed on Booking.com.

Bilbao is, however, a very hilly place (except for the very centre of the city). Before choosing a lodging place, it might be prudent to examine a map that shows contour lines, to get an idea of the effort that will be required to traverse between your sleeping quarters to e.g. downtown or where-ever you plan to go in Bilbao. Also, look at a map of the Bilbao metro system (subway train) to see how close candidate lodging places are to a metro station. My hostel was on the outskirts of the city, many hills away from downtown, but there was a metro station one block away which saved the day.

Before my last two Caminos (Norte last year, Olvidado this year) I stayed at Bilbao Metropolitan Hostel. Location very central. Rooms are clean, bathroom in the room and it has kitchen with coffee and tea.

It's not a pilgrim hostel although I saw pilgrims staying there each time. Neither time were there problems with partying crowds or loud noise.

If doing the Norte river route it's about a 15 minute walk to join the Camino.

Thanks for the info. Which hostel were you in?

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

It was one whose early-20s manager leaned towards expensive trendy clothes, flashy guy jewelry, and an attitude. It was not a pilgrim-centric place.
