    Backpack?

My husband ordered his pack from 6 Moon Designs. They had him take measurements to ensure the fit (modular parts so you order your preference of belt, straps or vest style, etc). Then the had him fill it and walk around the park where I took photos and we sent them to the company. They then...

    Recent Smelly Pilgrim Test

As I mentioned, I wear a holey well-used one for daytime walking and then have a nicer outfit in the evening. You can always tell the new pilgrims when they join the pilgrimage as their gear is always clean and bright. Their shoes are clean and their shirts don't have that grayed after...

    Recent Smelly Pilgrim Test

Some Merino will certainly get holes in it. Some brands and blends worse than others. It is one of the drawbacks that the wool fibers in the finer knit shirts and garments. I have used several brands and while some shirts, tights, dresses have lasted years, others succumb after only short wear...

    Backpack?

First, does the pack fit you well. Have you tried it on? It looks very big. My pack is 42 liters and I carry my clothes medications and a CPAP machine even in the winter when you need warmer clothes and a sleeping bag. Many others who don't need medical devices carry packs 32 liters or so. Can...

    Laundry Masher

Hmmn... can you refill the beads somehow? Wonder what it weighs? I don't really see it catching on with the Camino crowd somehow.

    Recent Smelly Pilgrim Test

It is for a Wool dress. I can't tell if you are allowed to wash it. I have one of this brand I took on the Camino last winter along with wool leggings for evening clothes and also slept in my dress several nights as a nightgown. Thinking about it for next winter when I will be in Italy and Spain...

    Recent Smelly Pilgrim Test

There is a brand in the US that has 100 day challenge for a dress.

Small juicer, vegetarians and heating element?

I always think the tomatoes, apples, and oranges in Spain are so much better than the supermarket produce in the US.

Night temp for a sleeping bag liner

Very personal as to preference. I have used my rain poncho as a cover over my silk liner bag in late June.

Goretex is a waste of money?

This makes sense to me. The heiress to the Gortex empire is a very conservative congresswoman from our state of Wyoming where it is high elevation and the climate is very dry... Honestly though, we had gortex overcoats in the military in the early 2000's and they worked great for cold and snow.

    First time Camino advice??

Where will you be starting? Boots are probably not needed although some people prefer them. Some people wear hiking sandals such as Tevas or Chacos and many wear cross trainers or running shoes. I agree to bring 2 pair of shoes, but one is for daily walking and the other evening and letting...

How to get the soap residue out of socks

If you are in a private room with a towel, wringing out can be accomplished by rolling up wet clothes in the towel and squeezing to reduce the Wringing.

How to get the soap residue out of socks

You might also try rinsing a few times in soft water. That may reduce any soap residue. I know my clothes, hair and skin always feel better and softer after a few days at my Dad's house where they use a water softener.

    Backpack or just a bag

Are you staying in albergues or private rooms? In a private room, you will likely have the space for two bags or a backpack and a suitcase. In an albergue you will be dealing with less space. I would not use a suitcase for daily transfer to albergues. They take up more room in already tight...

Options for cell service on Camino Norte

There really isn't such a thing as a burner phone in Spain. It would think it would be best to buy a sim card if they are starting in San Sebastian if they need data and cell service.

How to get rid of bed bugs from silk and merino items?

We usually have black plastic bags, not clear ones, at the albergue...

How to get rid of bed bugs from silk and merino items?

Don't wash first. Just dry. Less risk of damage and shrinkage. It is the heat that kills. At the albergue we give the pilgrim a change of clothes to put on. Then place their belongings in a black trash bag in the hot sun for the afternoon. We usually don't have a dryer and many small towns will...

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

Mine is an Altus and I don it with a little flare like it is a cape.

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

Mine absorb or wick through my straps. Also the pack cover makes the pack fit differently and less comfortably with the raincoat so I will stick with a good poncho from now on.

Walking with a messenger bag rather than a backpack

Maybe do a trial run of walking 4-6 hours with it loaded as you plan to take it first.
