    Booking ahead on a train

I think booking on trains if you're not a Spanish National can be somewhat troublesome as I discovered a few years ago. The problem is, you'll need to supply an ID number for Renfe, or at least you used to have to. Worth a look.

Good cheap hotel in Madrid in the old quarter

I always stay here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review ... adrid.html Last time I was there, the room for 2 people cost about 70€

    Ryan Air From SDC

I got my return flight to London Stansted for £17 (inc. tax and other fees). That's pretty damn cheap, bearing in mind it cost me £50 to get a return rail trip to Bristol!

    Nearest airport

Having done the bus route before and waited an hour for it to arrive, I'd surely say a taxi is the way forward! Bayonne's actually quite nice so it'll give you some time to wander about a bit. (please note: nice fluffy cake shop in Bayonne)

    Buying ALSA bus tickets online

Just checked, you'll need a Spanish ID number.

    Buying ALSA bus tickets online

Hmm... Not sure. I'd be a bit wary to be honest... I ordered Renfe tickets online, I had a reference number, went to collect the ticket and they didn't know what I was on about... That said and done, Alsa are meant to be a good, reliable company... I think. Have you tried their website?

    Bayonne To SJPP

Sil, that file doesn't open, sadly. :(

    Bayonne To SJPP

Aw shucks! I've just checked the AA route planner. I'd seriously get a taxi to the train station. The bus will drop you off on the other side of the bridge and the driver will let you know where to get off, but for the sake of a 7.8km taxi fare...

    Bayonne To SJPP

actually, have dug a little deeper, I've found this handy little PDF file http://www.ter-sncf.com/Images/Bayonne_SJPP_tcm17-21351.pdf Sorry, just thought you're getting in at 3pm, I was being a bit thick. Ok, you'll get to St Jean at about half 7 by the looks of it.

    Bayonne To SJPP

You'll need to get to Bayonne first. Are you on the 7am flight or a later one? have a look at this If you're pushed for time, think about a taxi to Bayonne. geographically it's not far but the bus takes ages... Well, about an hour.

    Heathrow to Stansted?

    Hmm... Good point.
  12. Minkey

    Heathrow to Stansted?

I'm gonna be contraversial! If you want to save on cash, get the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow to Green Park, change to Northbound Victoria Line and take that to Tottenham Hale and change onto the train there. It's cheaper.

    ryan air

Essentially you get what you pay for. If you're offended by plastic/plain airline interiors then don't... But on the plus side, it only cost me €6 to fly back from Santiago! Can't even buy a single ticket on the tube across London for that!!!!!!

    poles on planes

Well then, all the very best! I hope you will be able to see through the tough bits and get through to the end. It's worth it! :)

    poles on planes

    When are you off?

    poles on planes

One popular suggesting is to by a cardboard postal tube... My suggestion is just to tie them to your pack... Didn't seem to harm mine! :) Buen Camino :)
  17. Minkey

    Biarritz to SJPdP via bus?

The only way I've done it is to get a bus to Bayonne, then the train from Bayonne to St Jean

    Chaos at UK airports

Latest Now it seems that BA are cancelling all European and long haul flights... Many to follow I suspect.

    Chaos at UK airports

There aren't that many problems with Monarch flights to Spain. To be frank, I don't think that the disruption today will last too long and won't have too many long term effects... I hope... Especially as I'm off to Spain tomorrow night!
