that looks like the solution - if Ryan Air don't come on board with times that suit, looks like I can get a bus early in the morning to Coruna and then an afternoon flight to Heathrow so very convenient and at about 80euros, much cheaper than staying overnight in London + airfares etc. Thanks...
thanks for your input guys. I will have spent a good week in London in August (before doing the Coast to Coast walk and then on to the Camino) so really don't want to spend more time there - but may have to at least spend a night there by the looks of it. Was hoping to get all the travel in...
I am wanting to get to London from Santiago on November 2nd - or the day before if things don't suit, to connect with a flight to Australia at 22h00. I have been checking the Ryan Air site but it doesn't appear to have flights on that day (it's had the previous week listed for quite awhile now...
I have been having trouble finding a cheap flight from Santiago to London in November. Unless I want to pay ridiculous money (AU$1,000) I can't seem to find a good flight. Plus they all seem to route through Madrid and there's a big lay over. I imagine many pilgrims have wanted to return to...
I took the train from Leon to Astorga - it's less than an hour. When you get out of the train station, walk up the hill and veer right towards Gaudi's building (you'll see the spire), there is a great albergue just around the corner from there. cheers, Jane
there isn't anything suitable for you at the railway station, but you could try the hotel you stay in in Bayonne. I stayed at the Hotel Paris Madrid - they were very friendly and spoke English too. You could try asking them if you're staying there. :?: cheers, Jane
How exciting Alan! You won't have any trouble taking your walking staff with you on the train. And you won't have trouble validating your ticket once you're at the train station, just go to the window marked 'billet'. I actually forgot to do mine - the conductor on the train was very nice and...
Alan, i flew from Adelaide to Paris last September. I then took the bus to Montparnasse railway station and caught the train down to Bayonne. Yes, you feel jet lagged but you will be so pumped up with excitement you will cope well. I bought the ticket off the SNCF website for 22euros so your...
there is definitely a train from Santiago to Astorga - I took it after my camino. It goes through to Burgos, stopping in Astorga. It leaves about 9am from Santiago. We didn't book - just turned up at the rail way station and didn't have any trouble getting a seat.
I was also going to stop in Bordeaux but after much researching on the internet I've changed my mind and will go that little bit further on to Bayonne.
Main reason for this was that it appears the area around the train station in Bordeaux is the red light district and is run down and seedy. The...
Does anyone know if there is a train from Santiago to San Sabastian? Or another way to reach there? Cheap, easy, fun? I am wanting to pick up a leased french car from SS (they don't charge a ridiculous fee if you pick up in SS due to it being so close to France). thanks, Jane
My other option would be to hire a car in spain, drop it off somewhere in Spain after we've had a look around for 3 weeks, train to Bordeaux and then hire a car there for our stay in France.
My question - which would be the city of choice to drop the car off in? We will start from Santiago...
thanks for your reply Ivar. Are you able to advise which airline - Vueling or ClickAir is the safest of the two. I have not heard of either - are they both airlines within spain? Do you know which one has the safest record? :D many thanks, Jane
After my camino, my husband and I would like to hire a car and drive around Spain, and also back along the camino route. We would then like to drive into France to Bordeaux and then leave the car there and train it up to Paris. Can anyone recommend a good/cheap car company? I am getting quite...
My husband is meeting me after my camino in Santiago, he will be flying into Barcelona first. We have checked out airlines to Santiago, but has anyone had experience catching a bus or train from Barcelona to Santiago and if so, how long did it take and do you remember the cost?
If he chooses to...
You definately have the right attitude Davo - patience is a wonderful skill to have when you travel to a forgein country. Be patient, smile and the people will do their best for you. Have a wonderful time - say hello to the noise and smell of Paris for me - I miss it. :(
You will have no...
I have travelled through CDG many times - it usually takes about an hour to clear customs and get outside the terminal. HOWEVER, that is my experience and I can't guarantee it will be the same for you. To travel into Paris via train will take about an hour (less but allow that time). I would...
