From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

I have heard this before about sleeping outside in your sleeping bag. Not impressed. I am a 69 year old solo female who would never feel safe sleeping outside. I would stay awake all night sitting up.. I once caught an overnight bus to Madrid and gave up Camino del Norte in Summer because I...

LIVE from the Camino Walking the CF for Teresa

Great to see you have finished safely. It sounded a tough camino with your accommodation issues. I admire your tenacity and love your updates. I have no wish to sleep outside as a 69 year old solo female despite what other people on the forum say. I would not feel safe. Enjoy your trip home.

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

It sounds horrific. Enjoy your rest day of 21k. Personally, I would keep booking if you can. I have been in the position of having nowhere to stay.

Most Dangerous stage on Camino Frances.?

I was walking in France One time a car nearly hit me whilst walking on a pedestrian crossing. The car sped through the pedestrian crossing. Another time I was walking on the pavement in a town when a car nearly hit me coming up the alley extremely fast and slammed on the brakes. I was...

    Oct/Nov

I walked CF last October, two weeks of sun and two weeks of solid rain. Washers and dryers were expensive. 5 euro each in a lot of places. Good idea to bring a washing bag to place your dirty clothes in making it easier to share washing machine and dryer with other pilgrims and share the cost.

Lessons Learned on the Camino - From Leon September 2023

I walked camino CF last October and had no problem getting a bed in albergues. I didn't prebook only in Roncesvalles. I stayed at Municipal, Donativos and Private albergues.

Rethinking my CF-ish route after Burgos (and I start in 7 days!)

I found part of the satisfaction of walking the CF is walking the whole way. I met a wonderful Canadian couple who offered for me to share a taxi as it was pouring rain. I declined as i walk the whole way.

Rethinking my CF-ish route after Burgos (and I start in 7 days!)

I love the meseta too. It is one of the best parts for me.

    August Start

I have done two long caminos in August and one in October. I found the ones in August easier but the scenery very dry and not as attractive as in October. I had more daylight hours to walk in August. I left at 630am. In October, i left in the dark at 8,am having to leave the albergue. It...

What would you change about the CF - if you could?

I would eradicate other pilgrims that wanted to tell me what to do. One woman who was about 40 years younger than me told me I had to stop for lunch when I was much more comfortable having snacks. She told me this twice and it was my third camino of 800 k. Did she think i was so old i wasn't...

    Descent into Roncesvalles

I have walked the forest route 3 times and didn't find it too steep but it does seem to last a long time. I always use walking poles to help my precious knees

    Unexpectedly feminist pilgrimage

I too find this article a yawn perhaps because I am 69 year old female. My mother took me to a new school for sixth form to be told by the Head Master that I didn't need to complete sixth form to be a nurse. I went on to complete multiple degrees. The Bank didn't want to give me a housing loan...

LIVE from the Camino Sarria to Santiago winter Camino

Hi Janet, i am not surprised you forgot your snacks. You must be shattered. I felt exhausted just reading about how many times you got up to take your students to the airport bus. Enjoy your rest.

LIVE from the Camino Sarria to Santiago winter Camino

Congratulations Janet and M and all the future nurses on your achievements. It was great to follow your journey and interesting how complicated the logistics and budget of taking a group on the Camino. It is not something that occurred to me when I saw groups in the last 100k.

LIVE from the Camino Between Sarria and Portomarin

I too had a wonderful experience walking the CF in October. It rained continuously from Sarria. There were two large school groups one from Madrid and one from Belgium. I made friends with a group from Belgium. They were wonderful, respectful, clever, young people. They spoke multiple...

    Winging it freedom

I completed the CF in October. I did carry a guide book when i completed it 6 years earlier but i found i looked at it in the evening after i had completed my walk for the day. This time I had the Wise pilgrim and Buen Camino app but mostly just followed the arrows. This is how i came across...

LIVE from the Camino CF trip report

I walked CF in October. I arrived at Albergue lamas in the rain. I didn't know if anyone was there but it turned out there were six pilgrims staying for the night. The couple were delightful and so helpful. We ended up peeling chestnuts before the pilgrims dinner. Wonderful, home grown food...

I have walked Camino Frances, Le Puy Camino and Camino Norte Irun to Bilbao all in August. What is it like walking middle September to October? Is there lots of rain and what's the temperature? Would I need a sleeping bag ? What sort of jacket? Thanks for your help
