Do not miss the sello "croix Thibaut" !

    Rest day in SJPP?

I do not agree: - Pamplona is surrounded by ramparts. It should be something new for our fellow from the New World... - Its cathedral is worth visiting, you can even climb in the bell towers. - Last, but not least, you can eat there a tasteful chocolate con churros !

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

It is the magical of the Camino. One can think there are only 2 answers: - Religious - Not religious But no, indeed there is a 3rd way "Others", which should represent both "religious" and "not religious". Pilgrim Office has set a quantic Compostela ! ;-)

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

I do not know if you speak about Le Seuil. I do not think it is considered as a penalty, but more as means to get young people far from their bad habits. And I do not believe that the Compostela is involved (most of them do not walk until Santiago). The proof is rather the testimony of the...

    Rest day in SJPP?

SJPP is very small. I would prefer Pamplona.

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Camino is not a performance, nor a football game, nor an exhibition. It will be regulated by the accommodations: when enough pilgrims will be tired of bed race or dormitory worries, the number of pilgrims will decrease. The only concern is for local population: if they find there are two many...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

The correct expression is "ad hominem". Indeed I do not see "ad hominem" here: @Forward did not attack a particular member, but remember an obviousness. All the pilgrims who walk the Camino several times (as I do), contribute to the crowd. IMHO, that does not mean that we have no rights to say...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Saying: "Pilgrims uses to cross this town" or "Pilgrims walked on this route centuries ago" is often hypothetic. There are several points where we can guess medieval pilgrims were walking: - passes between mountains (eg, Somport or Roncesvalles) - hospitals where they were able to find food...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Yes but this one has been issued by the Pilgrim's Office

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

I belong to 2 pilgrim associations and I have asked them. The first one (SFASJC) just answered: "The price paid by a pilgrim for a credential is entirely for the SFASJC which designs and prints the credential. There is no fee due to Pilgrims Office in Santiago"

Variant from Mansilla De Las Mulas to León

I cannot see this variant, neither on mapy.cz nor on Gronze.com. Furthermore, I do not remember having heard about it...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

I think this rather goes to the Credential issuer, not to the Pilgrim Office at Santiago.

    Overcrowded Camino Frances

Wild camping is not so discouraged in France, provided you are cautious (namely regarding fires), ask permission if you see someone, and if you do not leave your tent too long at the same place. Indeed, bivouac is tolerated even in Spain. What I call bivouac is putting your tent on at the end of...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Perhaps we have to think about (and if possible answer), several questions: A) Do I personally think there are too many pilgrims on the Camino ? "too many" for my comfort ? Because it becomes difficult to find accommodations ? "too many" for the inhabitants close to the Camino, for the Galician...

Gite de la Porte Saint Jacques

Oups ! You are right, I missed the "Ver más" button... However, Gronze does not tell nothing about dinner.

Gite de la Porte Saint Jacques

Gite de la porte Saint-Jacques does not appear in Gronze.com. Edit: it appears, I must change my glasses... It seems to be a nice hotel But if you have to be careful with your euros, you should choose accommodations according to their prices, for instance on the website I mention above.
  18. Pafayac

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

Thinking that there are authorities responsible of all the accommodations on the Camino would mean recognising their right to say to any of us: "Stop ! You cannot start now, because the Camino is overcrowded". My opinion is that each of us is responsible of himself: the Camino is not mandatory...

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

Indeed, making the whole world believe that, apart from water, our french overrated wines are the only allowed beverage, is a good thing. Our wine growers need to sell their bottles... In France it used to be not acceptable to drink anything before finishing the soup. My grandmother said in...

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

In France this is also mandatory. If the waiter asks you "Plate ou gazeuse ?", answer "carafe !". It is the way to get free water.
