LIVE from the Camino Walking the CF for Teresa

I’ll bet you amazed yourself. I’ve often ‘been there’ and thought ‘ how can I walk a stage tomorrow without any sleep ?’ But I somehow find the energy next day. I think the fact that we are ‘resting’ our bodies works the magic. I agree with @J Willhaus though… it’s lovely to have a private...

    Tomorrow is the day! Yesssssss!!!!!!!!!!!

I have walked many caminos since 2012 and never treated my gear. I’ve never had a bed bug. Don’t expect to find them yourself. You’d have to be very unlucky. Buen camino

    Can you name this albergue?

Likely that this is the pic you are trying to match - PLUS the match from Gronze ‘Albergue Trinidad de Arre’

Memorial Garden for Denise Thiem near Astorga

Yes., we paid our respects the day before you Caryn. Jill knew where it was / easy to miss it. Also chatted to the warden there at the ermita and lit a candle. It was very special. A few plaques there on the wall too.

    Free poles! (Not a poll)

Very kind Andy - if no one made contact in time - I’m sure an albergue in Sarria would pass them on to someone in need or alternatively - you could pass them on to a deserving pilgrim as they pass by. I’m sure there would be a Pilgrim arrive to start in Sarria without poles and would appreciate...

Best 7 day walk on the Frances?

I agree with stopping at Lires too Michael. You’ll be able to have a paddle at Lires too if you skip down to the water. Very close. Buen camino.

    Foot doctor outside Ponferrada

Could this have been @David (from this forum) ? Who regularly spent time at different points on the camino to help pilgrims. He at times had his caravan with him and also a friend @JennyH94 assisted him for a small break on one occasion.

    Rethinking start date?

Hi @AbuelitaWalking Gronze is an easy to understand ‘go to’ site to find all info too; other than accommodation . It’s shows a huge selection of all caminos (not restricted to Camino Francés) also maps ., stops., distances marked in klms between villages etc to guide you. , options to click on...

    Opinions please days 3 - 7; SJPDP to Uterga. Off & short-stage.

Hi @MARSKA Truly hope for a ‘Buen camino’ for you. The ‘first camino’ always seems daunting. So true…. It56ny To Marska, the members who have responded above have aLeo experienced a wish to be prepared themselves ; and have thoughtfully given great advice. Though, most of us will only...

What time is mass in Roncesvalles?

@JustJack I believe from another thread that you are starting in mid May. Expect many more at Roncesvalles than when Bradypus was there. They don’t all attend the blessing but it would be a highlight. I am not a Catholic but attending some of the services along the way when possible I’ve...

Have you walked the Invierno to avoid the Sarria crowds?

My experience - 3am - needing emergency response for shoulder dislocation & PAIN… I wasn’t after cops (I had it on my phone ) - I was alone & wanted help from doctor &/or ambulance etc. So 112 was the way to go in that instance.

Vegetarian-Friendly Accommodations Along the French Way

I don’t have a list either but in SJPdP a popular place to stay is Gîte d'étape Beilari- Almost opposite the pilgrim office - it serves vegetarian meals. https://www.beilari.info/en/home/ . Plus: Looking on google I’ve found a site called Follow the Camino ; that lists Vegan food . May...

When do most pilgrims feel like quitting the Camino de Santiago?

Same for me. but @Burton Axxe you could be feeling nervous ? Being first camino ., you could be thinking that you won’t be as strong as others are etc? You’ll find as you walk along ., your confidence grows… you get the ‘hang of it’ and you really are looking forward to the next day...

    Things I fear

Hi Jack ( this makes me smile … I hope that doesn’t add to your fears 😀). I also don’t want to glibly say that you’re worried about nothing. The first toe into an unknown is scary for us all. It’s hard to get across to you at this point in your thoughts., that most of these thoughts melt...

Quite a few young families have walked and have posted on the forum. Read some of the posts from two families that come to mind walking with a number of small children: @Kiwi-family also. @shefollowsshells Regarding slowing down for your 9 year old / I’m sure if he decided to run 🏃‍♀️- he...

LIVE from the Camino Finally on the way.

That’s quite an achievement for both of you (or anyone given the weather /heat over that period ) It’s looking quite dry - good to read that your spirits are high and you’ve got Léon to Santiago ahead. Buen camino. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

    Catholic albergues and spots

Father Ernesto I am not Catholic; but we pilgrims were all very welcome. I never ‘picked up’ on ‘Catholic only’ however memory fades. My memories are getting vague on the Norte (2014 for me ) - There was a physio there in Guemes when I stayed . I needed treatment on my ankle, (swelling &...
