Hi Luka,
I did the CF 7 years ago followed by the Le Puy camino 6 years ago. 5 years ago I tried the Camino del Norte but gave up due to no accommodation. I was unwell as well with a bad cold. I remember thinking like you how repetitive the camino was and Spain I had seen before.I ended up...
I agree with the article. I haven't used fancy clothing or footwear on my 3 caminos only a good backpack and me. It rained nonstop for two weeks on the CF last October. I wore a light rain jacket and plastic pants with hand held umbrella. A couple I met had fancy pants that were supposed to...
We saw this movie today. Not our cup of tea. Liked the scenery. Storyline poor. It seemed to focus on the main character and miss the towns and history of Spain. One thing it didn't show was all the pilgrims walking the camino nor albergue life.
Enjoyed the movie with Martin Sheen much...
I am organised but like all human beings I make mistakes. On my first camino, I left my hiking poles at an albergue. There was no-one in the albergue when I left and couldn't retrieve my poles.
I emailed the albergue owner who kindly sent them to my next albergue destination.
Last October...
Hi Garlic bread, I am glad you are safe. I walked the Napoleon route twice in brilliant sunshine. I do remember the emergency huts however there were pilgrims in there resting from the heat. I also recall the rocks with plaques where pilgrims had died.
I walked the last two weeks in October...
I managed to get bottom bunks on the CF in October. On two occasions i was given a top bunk despite asking for one. i declined. They found me a bottom bunk. These were both donativos. This is one reason I try not to stay in donativos.
A municipal Albergue had run out of bottom bunks so they...
I walked with an American pilgrim who had walked the CF the year before. He said he always took the plates back to the bar. I started doing it and the bar workers were very grateful.
Was at the first, very busy bar with only one person serving. He served the guy next to me who came 15 minutes after me. I put my hand up to say what about me and the person serving went ballistic at me in Spanish. It was obvious what he was saying but a woman told me what he said later.
At...
I find all these 'have to do things' plus packing, travelling etc take a lot of time so it is a relief to get to the start of the camino and just walk. Yeh!
I would ring your debit card company to check that your card is still valid. I arrived in France to find mine didn't work because they had cancelled it. Always have backup credit and debit cards.
I have lots of breaks for coffee and cocoa and snacks but I don't have lunch. I prefer to get to my destination and have a large dinner. I feel uncomfortable if I eat lunch.
Having to press that button for water in the shower at the same time as waving my hand to make the light turn back on. All part of the fun. Grateful to be finished and having a shower and a bed
I found Paris to be extremely busy compared to Madrid. I caught train/ bus to SJPP from Madrid. It is so much easier to fly home from Madrid. On my recent CF, I caught a Veuling flight back Paris. They only fly twice per week. It was the end of the school holidays in France so the flight...
I found it difficult walking with other pilgrims on the CF last October. I was a solo pilgrim. I learnt early on that it was important to set boundaries to stop other lovely pilgrims expecting me to walk with them, stay at the same town an have dinner with them. I enjoyed their company but...
The weirdest thing I encountered on the Le Puy Camino was having to share a room with a couple in a double bed next to me and I was in a single bed next to them. I was a 66 year old female at the time and was horrified. They appeared to be naked. The gite was full.
I was out of this gite very...
