    Help getting lodging past Sarria

Yes, I suppose there are a few people that want to slow down at the end of the camino. But, I never experienced or have heard of anybody like that. But I have heard of several people who were doing long days to get to Santiago.

    Help getting lodging past Sarria

I wasn't telling people who started a Sarria to power through it. I was specially suggesting that people who started farther back including at St Jean that one of the good options for them is to power through the last 100 km. If you power through you can get to the last 5 km that has the good...

    Help getting lodging past Sarria

But this is more than just making time to visit Finnesterre and Muxia. The last 100 km continues to be a big concern to many pilgrims. It seems like every week or two we have someone, mainly new people, who are making a post about the last 100 km. I think a perfectly good technique for...

    Help getting lodging past Sarria

Yes, they are different. But they also are both very positive things to say.

    Help getting lodging past Sarria

Listen people, Finisterre/Fisterra is absolutely amazing. For people saying the last 100 km was more interesting/spectacular than that, well, I guess you get people like that. I'd say the last 5 km going into the Cathedral are the highlight of the Camino, but other than that, the other 95 km...

    Help getting lodging past Sarria

I never said anything about running the last 100 km. I said for people to power through the last 100 km, which is different than running. I'm just saying that if you started out at St Jean, by the time you get to Sarria you are a seasoned walker and in better shape to power through the last...

    Help getting lodging past Sarria

I would venture to say that most people would find Finnesterre more interesting than the last 100 km.

    Help getting lodging past Sarria

The other thing that powering through does for you is it allows you to do something else that might be more spectacular. You might be able to hike or bus out to Finnesterre and stay the night. You may have had a more pleasant experience taking the last 100 km slow, but going to Finnesterre is...

    Help getting lodging past Sarria

If you are hiking all the way from St Jean, then you will be a seasoned walker by the end of it. I would just power through the last 100 km. That's basically what I did, but I also was waiting for a friend of mine to catch up. He took a zero day in Leon, and was behind me from there to the...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Still not making any sense. If you move a bridge to a different location, that is not evidence that the same river flowed underneath it.

Train Advice - Santiago to Barcelona

I took a high speed train from Santiago to Madrid. Then at that very same station, Charmartin, I took a more local train to the Attocha Train Station. Then I took another high speed train to Barcelona. I think I booked the two high speed trains in Santiago, and then wasn't sure how to get...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

I'm not talking about a statue of a pilgrims. Instead I am talking about the type of statues that guide pilgrims to Santiago.

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

The London Bridge was disassembled and rebuilt at Lake Havasu City. Pilgrim Statues are still sitting there from 100s of years ago. They have not been moved. So, I'm not sure what your logic is.

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Lake Havasu City is 5500 miles from the Thames River. The next town off the Camino is only about 3 to 5 km

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

As I have written before, I think an alternate route should be developed after Portomarin. Several little towns that are not on the current route have pilgrims statues in them, so, at some point, pilgrims did walk through those towns.

Are passport copies accepted at albergues?

I kept the copy in a small crossbody bag that is always on me. Whether my real passport is safer deep inside my backpack is debatable. But my point was that the color copy and laminated version of my passport was accepted at almost every albergue. I also kept a photo of my passport on my...

Are passport copies accepted at albergues?

The Short Answer is Yes. Most Albergues will be just fine with a copy of your main page of your passport. I carried it in a document pouch underneath my shirt. My main passport I kept safe deep inside my backpack. I had the main page of my passport copied and my sister laminated it. The only...

"It's not about the gear" camino article from an irish jesuit blog

I have read Brandon McManus's Book called "The Way to Manresa." He is a Jesuit Priest and hiked the Camino Ignaciano (Way of Ignatius) in that book. That camino goes from west to east in Spain and coincides with the Camino Frances for about 6 miles between Navarette and Logrono except going the...

LIVE from the Camino SJPP TODAY May 2, 2024

I took the 12 noon bus from Pamplona which gets to St Jean at 1:40. I immediately walked to the Pilgrims Office and there was hardly anyone in line so I got in line. I got my credential and they asked me if I had booked a spot to stay that night. I said no. They told me to go up to the...

If you had to choose to skip a part of the route. What would be your choice?

I think the people walking longer distances have already seen it all. When I was hiking west of Sarria there were two guys hiking in front of me and you could tell they just started. One of the guys said enthusiastically "There's a forest, let's take our picture with the forest!" Well, since...
