How many pilgrims walked Camino de Santiago in the Middle Ages, Medieval times? Was it really 500 000 per year?

Thank you for the information. My first thoughts on reading your post is the sincerehope these Peregrinos leave only their foot prints on the Sacred ways.

    Leave only footprints

Absolutely agree with you. I walked my first Camino - Frances over August - October 2022. Stunned, saddened and disappointed to see much rubbish of all kinds along the sacred way. I believe it's a privilege to walk this special Pilgrimage that should be respected.

Dull, boring, urban and sketchy (sketchy?)

Ah, but no ups and downs, no grumps n gripes, no 'crowds', no having to walk out of one's way n more 'inconveniences' along with the beauty, kindness, friendliness and generosity of it all. Would this be a real Camino? Would this be a true Pilgrimage?

Same! I add some Chai tea for variation. Brands? Tetley, Twinings . . . whatever on special when I shop. I'm packing for my Pilgrimage in August. Popped in a selection of tea - bags! I'll be grateful for access to hot water! Cheers!

Bizarre discovery about the two route options between Saint-Jean and Roncesvalles

Thank you for this information and suggestion. I've decided that starting a bit further along the path at Valcarlos is more manageable for me. Good wishes.

Bizarre discovery about the two route options between Saint-Jean and Roncesvalles

Thank you, the comments about the Valcarlos route are informative. I am planning to commence my first Camino - Frances in early August this year. I have decided that flying to and from Madrid is my preferred way of travel between Australia (Adelaide South Australia) and Spain. I understand I can...
