Hi. I walked from Le Puy to Conques last October. I'm planning to resume in a couple of weeks with the aim of getting to Roncesvalles (or as far as I can). My pilgrim credential is half full with stamps. Does anyone know if I can get a new one from Conques onwards?
PS I know that the credential...
Many thanks to all those of you who offered excellent advice to my question. In the end I'll be taking the Malle Postale shuttle bus from Cahors ( where I arrive by train from Barcelona). Since my bus arrives in Conques at around two pm, stopping for the night in Noailhac is clearly the most...
Thanks. Yes, I used that service last October on my way back home. In fact, I've just written to the Malle Postale to see if they could drop me off in Noailhac. That would give me just 12 Kms to Decazeville and I'd avoid the daunting climb out of Conques.
Thanks for your suggestion. My travel plans are as follows: train to Narbonne from Barcelona, another to Cahors and then bus to Figeac. The following morning the Malle Postale 'navette' to Conques, arriving at 8 am. I would like to resume my route at Conques and not jump any stages, but I...
Hi. Here's a problem to which I can't find a solution. Any suggestions gratefully received! Last October I walked from Le Puy to Conques, but had to return home due to a family crisis. I'm very keen to pick up where I left off in June this year. At 72 years old and carrying a 9-10 kilo backpack...
I suspect that it is more likely to be French fans who can't find reasonable accommodation in Toulouse but can around, for example, Cahors. In fact, this is where a couple of elderly pilgrims were finding it very difficult to find beds.
I was surprised to read about the accommodation problems some pilgrims were having on the Via Podiensis/GR65 during the World Cup. But the route does cross a part of France where rugby is very popular indeed. What's more, unlike the albergues in Spain, the gîtes in France are under no obligation...
I've seen a couple of FB posts from people who hadn't pre-booked accommodation and are having difficulty finding anything in September, apparently, due to the Rugby World Cup matches. I'm setting off on my own on September 26 from Le Puy and have booked Montbonnet but not beyond. I hadn't...
From what I've read it would appear that trainers are the preferred option for the Via Podiensis. However, I understand that the route passes through rocky terrain on some sections and in this situation I would normally wear relatively lightweight boots for ankle support. I do quite a lot of...
Yes, my assumption is that end of September and October will be less popular. The only possible snag I can see are the Toussaint school holidays at the end of October. But I should be well on my way to Saint Jean Pied de Port by then. I let you (and others) know how it goes!
Hi,
I'm planning to start Le Puy Via Podiensis in the last week of September. I aim to get to Saint Jean Pied de Port in about 5 weeks (more if necessary). I'm 72 years old, am fairly fit and have experience of hill walking. I'll be travelling alone and carrying my own backpack. I speak...
