Isaiah 43:19
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?
I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Hi all, and thank you in an advance for your time and consideration :)
I'm very much in my "Camino dreaming" phase, but next year I'll be looking to pre-book some of my accomodation for my planned Norte-Primitivo-Verde pilgrimage.
My plan is to start gently from Bayonne and do mostly 15-25km...
I haven't watched The Way, and don't plan to. That genre / etc is simply not to my taste. Maybe if Ken Burns does a documentary on the subject, instead..... 🤓
This is how I "discovered" the pilgrimage:

Back when I...
About 422 days until my first Camino! I will be spending up to 70 days from home and responsibilites 😮 & will be on Camino during Santa Semana.
In the meantime, lots of time to try to improve speaking the relevant languages.
I always wear long sleeves and pants to protect my skin and tattoos from the Australian sun. In Egypt (early October), I covered up with a linen long-sleeve but it did sweat a lot. I'm looking into vegan blends for a suitable hiking shirt that can be washed and dried quickly.
Another option...
I'm still (somewhat) a young guy, but I feel the ticking of the clock already. I lost my Dad to cancer - he was only 54 - it was a short time between diagnosis and death. A grief I still struggle with.
A close friend was early 20s when cancer took her. Death can be around the corner for any...
I'm not planning on taking a sleeping bag (staying at hotels, etc). Might allow a bit extra weight for shoes? I have a long time to test and curate my gear before it's time to go :)
I'm thinking an early April 2025 start for this route (from Bayonne). I might take my two Altras - one is a low cut runner, the other a mid-ankle hiker. And of course the thongs ("flip-flops") that are neccessary to any Australian 😊
My stretch of Australia never gets snow (only hail), so hitting the coastal paths year round is usually possible. I never get bored of the ocean, and it's only 15 minutes drive away. Any time spent outside is beneficial to improving physical and mental health imo.
When I can't bring myself to...
I'm planning to start the Norte in Hendaye or therabouts, join the Primitivo, but then go Lugo -> Friol -> Sobrado de Monxes (back on the Norte).
I'm not sure whether the compostela would be registered as Norte or Primitivo, particularly if I avoid joining the Frances 🧐
I'm planning on using hotels, etc only for my Camino -
I'll probably find a way to bring my not particularly valuable DSLR and have it tucked away in bag that's not too camera-shaped. It survived a trip to Egypt and Jordan last year, hopefully it will return from Türkiye and Greece next year !
I look forward to reading about /both/ of your journeys on the Norte or Norte-Primitivo !! I have to hold tight until 2025.
And I just enjoyed reading your posts about the Primitivo this year, Peter. Thank you for sharing your experiences. :)
Walking from your home in Europe is really cool...
Looking at your bio and where you've been -
Could I ask:
For a first timer on the Way (and in Spain) would you recommend doing the full Norte or the Norte-Primitivo? I know a northern way is for me, so I will be starting at Irun regardless. Still haven't decided on an April or late September...
I'm also weighing up between April and September starts for my first Camino. I think spring flowers & young animals would be beautiful on the route, but when I go, I think it will end up being September.
( I hope there are not accomodation difficulties early Sep through to October. I am hoping...
