Burgos - I need a poncho ....

Undermanager

Veteran Member
So, my €8 poncho from Decathlon has proven itself to be utter sh*** in the rain, esp when windy. Having tight genes 😅, I thought it would be fine. Clearly not.

So, I'm currently in an albergue just outside Burgos and will pass through about 10.00am tomorrow. I'd like a 'better' poncho, maybe with sleeves, that will cover a rucksack, too.

Can anyone suggest a shop that might have the business, ideally close to the camino route through Burgos, please.

Ta in advance.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

They are in Burgos and have Altus ponchos.
C. Calzadas, 4, 09004 Burgos, Spain

Maybe call to make sure they have your size.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
By All means - the advice to get it at MundiCamino is the best option. I merely put the info forth about Decathlon transportation so folks do know there is an option to not hoof it up just in case they might want to get something (else) from it

Second (third?) vote for Altus Poncho. We just got back from the Norte and used Altus for the first time. They were wonderful. Very lightweight. Easy on/off. Kept us dry. (This was in cool weather. Can't say how they'd be in hot weather. But you don't have to zip them up. There are velcro tabs along the front so you can let in ventilation that way.)

I bought a good one at one of the Chinese shops for 3 euros.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Tried and failed. Was outside mundicamino at 11.15, still no one there, notice said opens 10.30. Other shops also closed when should be open. Popped into a few open ones but just had the same as I had. Oh well. Rained again today. Mine half worked. Just think how supreme the Spanish economy might be, if they got out of bed on time in the morning 😅🤣😂

Thanks. Decathlon seem a bit out of town away from the camino. I was hoping someone knew of something on-route? Cheers.
There is a convenient and free bus you can take to Decathlon from a central city location. We have often made a stop there as the weather turned cold during a fall Camino. Someone at your albergue can probably direct you to the bus or to a more convenient sporting goods store inside the city.

Perhaps they were closed for the holiday. So sorry, but keep trying. There us a great Camino store in Castrojerez run by a rather famous man in his 80's (maybe 90's now).

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.
