    Camino Salvador and Primitivo Detour

    The San Salvador takes 4, 5 or 6 days. ( we took 5) It is beautiful and much quieter than the Frances. Some paths are a little overgrown but it is all clearly marked.     We used bla la from Lyon to Le Puy en Velay. A journey that would have cost over £100 by public transport for us,cost €8 each. Register on the website, state where you want to go and wait for a response. Our driver was a student in Lyon who regularly drove back home to Le Puy. It saved us time...

    Pilgrims Guide Book versus GPS Apps

    You reply don'the need a book/GPS to find your way on the Frances..it is so clearly marked. However, the Brierley guide is great for information such as alternative routes/ accommodation options/distances etc.

    I think the GR 65 from LePuy en Velay is absolutely beautiful. I would start here and walk for whatever number of weeks you have eg to St Jean Pied de Port. Then go back another time to finish eg walk to Leon, then take the San Salvador to Oviedo, then the Camino Primitivo to Santiago. Don'the...

    It is tough at times but the views make it worthwhile. The hardest part is the overgrown green lanes/paths. They always lead to amazing vista's though...and Oviedo is beautiful.

    Started in Leon 4 days ago. This walk is stunning. Very beautiful with quiet Albergues/pensions. Last day tomorrow. Big climbs and many steep paths. If you are fed up with the battle for beds on the Frances - I would recommend this.
