Pillow - bring one or is it provided?

I do miss my camping days, still would do it again, if just for the communty vibe. Now your camping stories are definitely roughing it, but the Appalachian Trail sounds like an unique experience... I heard about Caminos from my dad. They're not too popular in NZ., but he heard about it...

Pillow - bring one or is it provided?

I highly recommend those kind of trips. So much community spirit, dare I say, even more than a camino! Imagine it, hundreds (sometimes over a thousand) cyclists traveling 600 ish Km across Australia. Each day staying in small tents in grassy show grounds/field's. With volunteers, being bussed...

Pillow - bring one or is it provided?

Not directly related to caminos... But when I lived in Australia, I was involved in some organized cycling/camping 9 day holidays as a volunteer (for those in the know like cycle Queensland, NSW big ride, GVBR). Oh, good memories from those days... Anyhow, it involved sleeping in tents in...

Walking to Santiago the day of sailing

Old question, but have fond memories of the last day into Santiago... According to my Google photos.. Left Arousa at 7.45am, got off boat about 9am, a quick look around Padron and second breakfast, left Padron about 10.45am. Reached Santiago cathedrals front gate at 6.06pm. Next day...walked...

Advice needed on travel from Tomar to Porto

The more time in Portugal the better! So many hidden treasures too, if you go choose to deviated from the path. My Irish pilgrim friend spent a a rest day exploring a forest/nature area not far from Coimbra. And I found the delightful town of Santa maria de feira with its castle, and old main...

    Is the Camino too crowded?

.I understand your feelings about the Tui camino path. Did in early may last year. Having started my walk in Tomar, had got used to a quiet path. It got busier after Rates...them tui happened! Not complaining as such, it was kinda nice seeing the enthusiasm of the new pilgrims and the path is...

Which part to choose between Lisbon and Porto

I walked from Tomar last year, from mid april. An Irish pilgrim I met, in Alvorge and coinbriga, must have gone to the same national park, near Coimbra. We crossed paths again on the central path near Rates, and she told me of her walk in the forest. She seemed to enjoy it Buen Camino Leah

Starting the walk in the afternoon

On the clothing drying issue. A good reason to take 2 spare walking outfits, not just one. So you can catch up on washing when you have more time. I included a few days with afternoon walking, similar time last year, arriving about 6-7pm.. It's quite relaxing, with less pilgrims on the path.

Are you planning your (next) camino? Well, I am

I'll be walking the mozarabic from.Granada to Cordoba with my parents next August. From the YouTube research we've done, it should be good. Cant wait to see the palace in Grandada, and my parents have been to Cordoba and really liked the city. My previous caminos were the coastal from.Porto...

    Day dreaming...

I'm daydreaming of all the caminos I could do. And how cool it would be to walk from Madrid, and not have to worry about public transport. It won't be for a few years though... Has anyone walked from Madrid to Leon to Oviedo to Santiago? I'm guessing it would take about 5 weeks? Buen Camino

How many days from Lisbon to Santiago?

And if you do run short of time, for extreme weather, injury etc, there's no shame in using public transport to catch up - advice from pilgrims close to me. I was as lucky I managed okay time wise, but it's good to know that was an option. When you have to an annual leave and air fares booked...

How many days from Lisbon to Santiago?

Yeah, I meant the distance certificate distance, minus 30ish km for the section I took the boat for, equals about 460Km , seems about right.
