I just returned from the full Frances, SJPDP-Santiago. I do a lot of hiking on steep slopes (and also trail running) here in Colorado, and have a weak ankle from past sport injuries. I chose betwwen Hoka trail runner and Solomon boot for the Frances. I'm very glad I chose the boot because...
Hmmm. Now in Portomarin, 5 and 1/2 weeks out from sjpdp. The two of us have not prebooked anything and have had no trouble finding beds. We are among the slowest on the trail and rarely complete our day's hike by 3:00pm.
I think it best to seek a motel, considering the bug (which i and my fellow traveler are experiencing) seems to spread by contagion. And would be a good precaution for any sickness.
Passed through that area last week, although first heard of - and experienced - the bug at El Burgo Ranero. Both of us got it a few days ago Yes, 5 days would seem about right ...still being resolved.
Careful though....some debit cards of major banks have a high foreign transaction fee. (Wells Fargo debit card charges 3% fee on all foreign transactions.)
